How We Research
Every guide on My Dream Chair starts with one question: will this product work for the person and the room? For a recliner, that means your height and weight, the space around the chair, how you plan to use it and the features that matter to you.
Here is how we answer it.
1. We start with the person and the place
A large recliner may not fit a small room, and a chair with a high seat may not suit someone with shorter legs. A lift chair also needs to match the user's size and the space around it.
We check weight capacity, seat width and height, overall dimensions, clearance, and whether a chair fits through doorways. For covers, cushions, tables, lamps and footstools, we look at measurements and how the item will be used beside or on the chair.
2. We compare specs and features
We look at the details the maker lists: recline positions, control type, lift function, upholstery, cushion construction, power requirements and what comes in the box. For accessories, we check material, fit, adjustability, storage and care instructions where those details are available.
Makers describe their products in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We also note the warranty terms the maker lists.
3. We look at buyer feedback
We read what buyers report after using a product. We look for patterns, like a mechanism that stops working, upholstery that wears quickly, covers that slip, or tables that feel unstable.
One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.
4. We score each product
Our score weighs fit, specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A chair that suits a tall person or a large room may score lower in a guide for compact spaces.
Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.
5. We keep pages up to date
Products change, and some disappear from stores. Makers sell close models under similar names, so we check each model name and what comes in the box, and we only link new units.
We skip unknown brands with no track record and any product with a known recall. When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.
What our picks are not
Our picks are research, not hands-on tests. We don't claim to have used every product we cover.
We don't give medical advice. For a lift chair or support cushion related to a health concern, ask a qualified health professional what may be appropriate for you.
